Honda K-Series Torque Specifications & Rebuild Tolerances

This document provides factory torque values, bolt tightening sequences, and internal engineering clearances for Honda K-Series 2.0L and 2.4L engine platforms (K20A2, K20Z3, K24A2).

Cylinder Head Torque Specifications & Sequence

The Honda K-Series uses yield bolts for cylinder head clamping. Ensure bolt threads and underside heads are lubricated with clean engine oil prior to assembly.

Factory OEM Head Bolt Torque Steps

  1. Step 1: Torque all 10 bolts in sequence to 29 N·m (22 lb-ft / 3.0 kgf·m).
  2. Step 2: Tighten all bolts in sequence 90 degrees.
  3. Step 3: Tighten all bolts in sequence an additional 90 degrees.
  4. If using new OEM bolts, execute an additional final 90-degree turn (total 270° angle).

Important

If installing ARP 2000 Head Studs (Part #208-4701), do not use the factory angle method. Torque ARP studs using ARP Ultra-Torque Lube in 3 equal steps up to a final torque of 80 lb-ft (108 N·m).

  • Intake Valve Clearance: 0.21 mm – 0.25 mm (0.008 in – 0.010 in)
  • Exhaust Valve Clearance: 0.25 mm – 0.29 mm (0.010 in – 0.011 in)
