The thermostat bypass hose is typically a small-diameter hose connecting the thermostat housing to another part of the cooling system, often near the water pump or engine block. Depending on your specific B-series engine and chassis, you may need to remove other components for better access:

  • Intake piping or air box: Loosen clamps and remove sections as needed.
  • Battery or battery tray: Disconnect and remove if obstructing access.
  • Other hoses or wiring harnesses: Carefully move or disconnect any components that impede access to the bypass hose.

Refilling the Cooling System

  4. Using a coolant burp funnel (recommended) or a regular funnel, slowly fill the radiator with the correct Honda Type 2 coolant mixture.
  5. Start the engine and let it run with the radiator cap off (or burp funnel in place). As the engine warms up, the thermostat will open, and coolant will circulate.
  6. Squeeze the upper and lower radiator hoses several times to help dislodge air bubbles.
  7. Continue to add coolant as the level drops in the funnel, maintaining the level above the radiator opening.
  8. Run the engine until the cooling fans cycle on and off at least twice, indicating the thermostat has opened and the system is circulating properly.
  9. Once no more air bubbles appear, remove the burp funnel (if used) and install the radiator cap.
  10. Fill the coolant reservoir to the "MAX" line.

Post-Installation Checks

  • Coolant Level: Check the coolant level in the reservoir after the first few drive cycles and top off as needed. Air pockets can sometimes work their way out over time.
