BAR (Unit of Pressure)
An overview of the BAR unit of pressure measurement and its relationship to atmospheric pressure and PSI.
A BAR is a metric unit of pressure. It is closely related to atmospheric pressure at sea level (which is approximately 1 bar).
Pressure Conversions
Understanding pressure conversions is essential for turbocharging, supercharging, and map sensor calibration.
- 1 BAR â 14.7 psi (pounds per square inch)
- PSI to BAR Conversion: $\text{psi} \div 14.7 = \text{BAR}$
- BAR to PSI Conversion: $\text{BAR} \times 14.7 = \text{psi}$
Metric Standards
While the BAR is commonly used in automotive tuning, the official SI unit for pressure is the Pascal (Pa) or Kilopascal (kPa).
- 1 BAR = 100 kPa.
