I would like to start that by saying that im not a dumb as i look!.. with that being said...
I have a Po6 ecu that i recently socketed (thanks to moates chip kit, thanks Craig!!!) and i had someone burn me a .bin on that chip... with the stock Po6 .bin to test it out.... did the proper jumpers like the wiki said to do.... and what do you know... it works!... it really works!... very happy!...
The car this all is going on is a 88 crx with a DOHC ZC engine.... upgrading to OBD1..... (that cars not running yet due to engine being out, i have a 90 running test crx!)
Now, i would like to tune this car myself, on a dyno.... Questions are:
1. Will i need anything hardware related except for a hondalog, and burn1?
2. I want the ability to datalog but dont want to pay $150 for crome pro... does this Freelog work just a well?
3. Really stupid question.... what does crome do really... (laymans terms here please!) I know that you can change you .bin fill accordingly but does the Free verison really do anything else? I know that you can watch your shiza with the datalog, change your .bin with crome, and im guessing that you can burn that program with the Burn1 software....

---PLEASE conferm what i have said if it is true or point me in the right direction.... I was told that you guys are the shiza and you guys know your stuff!!! Is there better software for datalogging out there that Freelog, or is Crome Pro really that good that i cant do without it?.... this car will be running a 150 shot of nitrous on a fully built ZC.....

Ok, well, good job on chippin your ECU... some people have the hardest time... and I don't blame half of em =)

Hardware you will need to tune:

First off, for the CRX u need to get the OBD0->1 conversion harness, or wire in the plugs yourself.

Secondly, aside from a hondalog, or HUlog and a burn1, you will need a wideband 02.

Freelog works good... rather funny at times, but it does it's job well once configured. CromePRO's datalogging engine works good as well, but lacks the "finesse" or options that people so desire in the tuning world.


Basically Put:

CROME pro is a program that interprets honda ROM's. It is just a program to load and interpret the information in the ".bin" [or chip] file, allow you to easily modify the info, save, etc. There are many features about CROME that people like, the main ones being that it has a built-in datalogger (the cheapest one I know of with one built-in), the ability to control RTP (Real Time Programable) devices, the ability to make plugins to basically make your ECU do anything you so desire: limited by the plugin writers' knowledge of the honda ECU code.


Burn1 will burn any .BIN, but CROME is the only one to offer a built-in datalogger that is dunamically linked to the .BIN engine. You see in real-time what fuel cell, and what ignition cell is being affected.

PRO has the datalogger, more plugins, the Auto-tune feature, the map trace feature, and a type of "dyno tools". (search on anything you don't know... it's there).

See... now this is the type of answer i expected out of you guys!.... Thank you!!!..... i have built my own conversion harness last week and tried it out (with my obd0 distributor and o2 sensor) with my freshly chipped Po6.... and the car fired right up... even on the obd0 dizzy!.. dont know why or how but it did..... I did forget that i would need the wideband.... or maybe i could at utlitize the one at the Dyno, saving $300!!!

I see that you think highly of Crome pro... as with most that i have seen!.... i think i will just break down and buy it!.... It is hard for me to spend $ on software... The map trace will really come in handy and that is a great selling point!... After all... its only money... right?..... Thanks a bunch for the fast and polite reply!

Yes, but for the $200 you dont get any kind of gauge do you?.... Could you attach that to the laptop as well to get the readout, or do you have to get a separate gauge?...... i see with the gauge its over $300!....
