Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

hi guys ,

Finally I was able to finish chipping my P1K ,but I have strange problem

When the J1 jumped + chip removed ,engine starts .How is this possible?

I even tried with blank a chip ,still engine starts . but both occasions engine idles higher than J1 removed .

When I remove the J1 while the engine is running , it stops .

Is this normal? am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

It's called limp mode. I'm sure you've heard of it.

Thanks

I've heard of it but never thought ECU will run without the chip with jumper=ON ,I'll have to do more reading

May be something wrong with the chipping

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

It's a backup mode, regardless of how it's chipped or what's on the chip.

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

i have the same problem.
cur runs normally almost. just i can smell gas not burning all. i think its running rich
ecu p28
engine h22A

engine rewinds till 7500

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

one more strange thing

i tested R49 and found it was burned so i changed it to similar (i think it was 1k ohm) but now when i test this resistor it shows that there is only 240 ohm. should it be like this or no? can anybody test r49 at their ecu and tell me what are readings?

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

You can't measure the resistance of a specific resistor while being a part of a circuit. other circuit components affect your reading. It’s completely normal measuring lower resistance… in the same way its normal for the resistance to drop as you add resistors in parallel.

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

i know this. but i thought maybe there is short-circuit somewhere.

if j1 circuit is good, then i have no sense why ecu isn't reading external chip. I tried some different chips with different programs and still the same

how ecu reacts if 74hc373 chip is faulty? does it throws error code or runs internal memory without any error?

Re: Strange problem !! Engine runs without the chip

problem is found.
there was burned "wire" (bad soldering) from j1 to mcu leg
