The scientist (guess and check) way
1. Buy:

2. Cut off the end of the connector
3. Install these drivers (others may NOT work) If link goes down search for "PL2303_Prolific_GPS_AllInOne_1013.exe"

4. Install this utility to help probe cable:

5. Strip your ends (should be 3) of the cable. If you have more than 3 DO NOT PROCEED, find another guide (you could fry your adapter)
6. Plug the cable in, check device manager for COM port, start Serial-Loopback-Test program
7. Select your com port in the test program, pick 2 wires and touch them together. Start the test.
8. Once you find the 2 wires that work (loopback reports green bars, etc) make a note of the wires. The left over wire is ground.
9. Cut the end off a floppy drive power connector and use it for the ecu connection or hack together another sort of connector.
10. Use this pin out (or any other CN2/3 pinout) to connect the ground to ground, tx rx tx rx etc

11. Take a note of your wiring. Go to the car connect it, do the usual datalog thing
11a. At this point it should work, congrats! Solder your connections and wrap them or go to step 11b
11b. If it doesn't work then switch the tx, rx around and retry. Close Turboedit, restart your car, etc.
12. If your CEL turns SOLID and car runs like crap, you may have the ground hooked to tx, rx or have tx rx switched. Don't freak, just reverse the wires and retry.

If all else fails try switching your baud rate around and do additional research. It took me 3 hours to figure it all out. It's easier to simply use the Nokia Pinout but as my nokia end broke off when attempting to strip off the cover I had to try another way.

i have bought a DKU-5 cable from ebay that only had 3 wires:

White, Black, Red

I didn't check, i assumed black is the ground and from a guide on a honda-tech forum i was left with the impression that white goes to pin 2 on the CN port and red goes to pin 4. BRE connects with the COM port but not datalogging. ECU works fine, no CELs. Driver is the prolific that windows 7 installed by default. Any suggestions? Are the wire colors correct? Thanks.

Wire colors WILL NEVER be the same from cable to cable. Never assume they are. Find your ground using a multimeter, then plug the cable, and use a terminal software to send stuff over it and find your TX wire.

This cable is cheaper, doesnt require mods, an has given me years of service. Driver can be found free at prolifics web site.
