Datalogging with Gotspeed 232 board

After many tries and wonders why i could not get datalogging to work, found an error in the directions that comes with the board, if not an error its pretty misleading to noobs like me.
I took a couple of pics of the TTL to RS232 board, with the correct 4 pin connector pin out.

This is how your 4 pin connector to the TTL to RS board should look like.
On the directions with the board, notice that the pin numbers are reversed and shows pin #1 to be TX and #4 to be ground; the picture is also misleading.
going by #1 on the 4 pin connector is should be:
#1=GND(black)
#2=RX(white)
#3=+5(red)
#4=TX(blue)

I don't have this board, but it seems like there is 3 or 4 people a week who can't get it to work.

Mmuller was able to figure out how to correctly wire it and provided the pics above in order to correct his problems.

I have them...made a few kits myself, datalogged with one and it worked fine. :?:

The only thing that was ever wrong with his directions was the polarized caps that he changed out of the kits but didnt change the directions as far as I could tell...

Black is ground - Pin1
RED is 5v - Pin 3

And TX and RX are 2 & 4...

i think most people that get confused think you wire TX on the Board to TX on the ECU and same with RX, however, this is not the case. Its vice-versa...

Quite possibly. that's why I'd like to see the directions... maybe I can identify where the cause of misunderstanding is and offer all NEWBS a good, quick & easy hookup diagram. :)

I've developed a similar board using a max233. It eliminates the need of the external capacitors. If someone's interested, I'll attach the eagle schematics here. All it took was the pcb price, conector, db9F, and max233. It all sumed about 3โ‚ฌ('bout $3.6 USD). So if anyone's interested, just drop me a line and I'll attach the schematics here!
