In a VTEC-equipped engine, the Low Cam profile is engaged during low-RPM operation. This camshaft profile is specifically engineered to prioritize fuel economy, emissions compliance, and a smooth, stable idle.
Note
The engine management system transitions from the Low Cam to the High Cam profile once specific load and RPM thresholds are met, allowing for increased airflow and power at higher engine speeds.
Camshaft Characteristics
The Low Cam profile features smaller lobe lift and shorter duration compared to the High Cam profile. This design optimizes intake velocity and volumetric efficiency at lower engine speeds.
